Semester One, 2023
Congratulations to the Landscape Architecture and Interior Design students from RMIT involved in this semester’s “Catalytic Infrastructures” and “Building Stories” studios, run as an interdisciplinary partnered project in collaboration with the City of Melbourne’s City Design team!
Over the past three months, RMIT Landscape Architecture students and Interior Design students have been exploring how design can act as a catalyst for innovation, drawing multiple elements together into new configurations to generate novel outcomes. Working with the City of Melbourne’s City Design Team, landscape students used the emerging City North Melbourne Innovation District as their testing grounds, reimagining the streets as platforms through which diverse forms of knowledge, practice and experience can intersect. Interior students developed films speculating on future innovations and encounters for the film within the inaugural Now or Never festival. The collaboration was co-led by Tess Nettlefold and Ella Gauci-Seddon from the City of Melbourne team, Jen Lynch from RMIT Landscape Architecture, and Dr Olivia Hamilton and Dr Andy Miller from RMIT Interior Design. The collaboration has taken the form of workshops, joint review discussions and a student-led pop-up exhibition in the City’s new Munro Building. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in this collaboration!
