Field Trip: Look Out Beyond the Void

Semester One, 2023

In semester one, 2023, students in the Look Out Beyond The Void Lower Pool studio explored Latrobe Valleys resource landscapes. On the field trip students heard from community stakeholders and visited extraction sites including the former Yallourn Township, the Yallourn North Extension open cut and the Hazelwood Coal mine. Each of these site gave students insight into the various stages in the lifecycle of coal mines in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley.

 Students heard about landscape and community transition from voices including Rob Gaulton, Nina Burke and David Langmore from Great Latrobe Park, Tim Leeson from Gippslandia, PollyannaR from Pollyannar Gallery Studio, and Jess Reeves from Fed Uni Gippsland

 The studio leader was Kyle Bush and the field trip was supported by the studio industry partners: Mine Land Rehabilitation Authority and Engie Australia
