Michael Howard

Michael's teaching focuses are design and landscape technologies with an emphasis on formal outcomes and consideration for landscape spatiality through materiality. His design teaching focuses specifically on the spatiality, particularly of food systems in urban, regional and remote Australian Landscapes.

His recent projects have investigated ideas around efficiency, redundancy and cross programming of peri urban food production zones in Melbourne Australia and contemporary food production spaces in historical French landscapes of Normandy France.

His research interests include design engagement with remote landscapes and their communities, food systems, productive landscapes and designing for future food urbanism.

Michael is a founding member of FOOD LAB: Food and landscape architecture bureau. FOOD LAB is a design group investigating food systems and settlement patterns internationally, through research and teaching.
